September 1, 2010: The Playground Theater & K.C. Redheart Unveil 30-Hour Improv Comedy Marathon for Charity.
Beginning Friday, September 10 at 6pm and lasting through Saturday, September 11 at midnight (11:59pm), the Playground's K.C. Redheart will perform 30 straight hours of comedy as part of the inaugural Playground Improv Marathon, a charity event benefiting the Illinois Coalition of Reach Out and Read and the Playground Theater.
The nine members of K.C. Redheart will test their wits, endurance, and sanity as the core group of “Marathoners,” going without sleep while performing for the Marathon’s entire 30 hours. Additionally, each hour will mark the start of a new show, as the Marathoners welcome guests from around the city to improvise with them, including performers from Second City, ComedySportz, the Annoyance Theatre, iO, and K.C. Redheart’s home, the Playground Theater.

The Playground Theater in conjunction with GRAFITTI PRODUCTIONS is proud to announce THE SKETCH LAB. THE SKETCH LAB is an 8 week sketch comedy writing LAB. The 6 -8 person lab will be lead by Playground President and Grafitti Producer Matt Barbera. Throughout the program guest comedy writers will be brought in to discuss comedy writing with THE LAB. Every week LAB members will receive a sketch comedy writing assignment. At the following weeks lab the scene will be discussed and put on its feet by other members of the lab. Auditions for THE SKETCH LAB will be held Saturday July 24th. The audition will consist of an improv / storytelling component and 2 writing sample. When you sign up for the audition you will be given a suggestion / concept for one of your written scene. The Sketch Lab participants will end up with a sketch comedy show performed at Grafitti. Rhythm Method, a comedy ensemble that effortlessly and joyously incorporates improvised rock ‘n roll into their shows, is generously donating all proceeds from their shows in March at the Playground Theater to the nonprofit organization Homes For Our Troops.
Funds raised by and in conjunction with the run of shows beginning Monday, March 1 will sponsor Leslie Link Mitchell, a Chicago-area improviser and friend of Rhythm Method, as a participant in the 2010 Boston Marathon on April 19.
Homes For Our Troops is a national non-profit, non-partisan organization that assists severely injured Servicemen and Servicewomen and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials, and professional labor and to coordinate the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.
Rhythm Method will be performing each week in March with accompanying ensembles, including Teenager of the Year and Bella, at the Sandbox Improv Showcase, Mondays at 8pm.

Grafitti and The Playground are proud to announce the next solo sketch comedy class taught by Paul Thomas. Open to the experienced and not-so experienced, it will focus on writing, stage presence, structure, tools, tricks, timing, cadence, and finding inspiration for creating solo character pieces. The workshop will be limited to 6 students to ensure all attendees receive a lot of personal attention. The class will also recieve sets at HAPPY HOUR and have a GRAFITTI show at the Playground in March
